This Academies Enterprise Trust academy is a secondary school for 11 to 18 year olds based in the borough of Richmond upon Thames in South West London. In my pre-freelancing days I worked here for 12 years in various IT-related roles. As is the way with schools, anyone can end up being the website administrator. As an employee I performed this role from 2009 to 2017.Â
When I left I reached an agreement with the principal whereby I would continue to work on the website to an agreed maximum of 10 hours a month. Websites have become an important tool for school's to communicate with parents and children and to promote itself to prospective parents.

Despite the fact that I had moved 273 kilometres (170 miles) north I managed to successfully maintain and keep improving the site for about three years until budget restrictions ended my contract.
Principal's Welcome page
The Richmond Park Academy websites consists of well over 150 pages. To monitor individual page maintenance I used a spreadsheet. I listed every page alongside its section and person responsible for providing content.
There were also columns for update date and notes. I used conditional formatting to highlight a page that was due to be checked and updated if necessary.
I worked with the school for another year until September 2023 as a lack of a dedicated web admin led the website to become out of date.
